I have included some common questions below, but please feel free to email me at jacob@jacobrossmer.com.
Yes and no. As you can imagine, TV and movies often try to sensationalize the therapy process to make it seem more dramatic and entertaining. Now mind you, it can get quite hot in the therapy room at times, but ultimately this happens in fits and spurts. Also, therapy is a process, and while it seems to move at a rapid pace on TV and in movies, in reality, everyone progresses at their own pace.
Then we'll figure it out; surprisingly, some of the most productive and meaningful sessions are ones when we don't know how to start, or even what we want to talk about. Therapy is very organic and flexible, and since we all deal with enough pressure in our lives, it's sometimes nice to trust in the therapy process and allow the session to flow as it will.
Each session lasts 50 minutes, and I tend to advise clients to come once a week, especially early in the therapy process. Therapy can last weeks to months to years. It ultimately depends on what you want to get out of it, and how we can best work together to help you achieve your goals.
Yes, I talk; more importantly, though, I try to listen to both the things you say, and sometimes the things that are going unsaid. But rest assured, I am present in the therapy sessions and will not leave you to do all the talking.
Yes and no. Unlike a medical doctor, I'm not here to give you answers and advice; I see myself more as a guide to help you find the answers yourself. Quick fixes and answers feel great in the moment, but they become less meaningful as time goes on.
